BRICS NATIONS: WHY SOUTH AFRICA NOT NIGERIA AMONGST THE BRICS NATIONS?

The establishment of an organization called BRICS that stands for Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa consist of one country from Europe that’s Russia, one from Latin America Brazil, two from Asia China and India and only one from Africa that’s South Africa.
These countries mentioned has 40% of world population, $4.4 trillion of world GDP (less than 1/4 of USA’s GDP) but with the hope to have 40% of world GDP by 2030. This group of nations are now holding meetings in one location or the other with a view of creating huge market and international Bank to rival world Bank and IMF. Althogh they have not reach agreement in the past some years on how to establish the Bank but esperts assert that they need $50b for the Bank to come into reality. And they can be reckoned with in global political and economic interplay.
Experts questioned why BRICS nations co-opted South Africa to be among them not Nigeria? Despite the fact that Nigeria is a huge market for capitalist economy and GDP growth rate of about 7.3%? And again, South Africa will contribute only 2.5% to BRICS economy. In this respect one may need to ask what Nigerian leaders are doing? Why Nigeria not consulted when the idea of establishment of this global economy came into imagination? The purpose of any government policy formulation and implementation is to gain economic benefit for the nation and social stablity of individual citizen. Nigeria need to wake up and be involved into this kind of global ecnomic cooperation with a view to strengthen and enhance the economy of the nation. Economy is the live wire of nation’s survival and solution to security challenges.
Nigerian leaders must have wisdom, courage, knowledge, patriotism and intention to boost Nigerian economy. Globalization-means INTEGRATION OF WORLD ECONOMY” (Professor Robert Gilpin 2001). Nigeria is in dare needs to be among these kind of regional economic interplay or even create one: Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Ukraine and Nigeria can be an economic emerging nations to be watched in global political and economic interplay.
The question that Nigerian leaders will answer is why BRICS nations refused to invite Nigeria into their fold? And why NIGERIA can’t create its own pathways for economic growth?
