Sunday Igboho Writes FG, Demands N500m Damages, Apology From DSS.
“Sunday Igboho knew that he would be arrested one day hence retaining our services. He could not be that daft to keep incriminating articles in his house!”
Yoruba rights activist, Sunday Adeyemo fondly known as Sunday Igboho, has written a petition to the Federal Government (FG) over the damage to his residence, cars, and other property by the Department of State Services (DSS), Eaglesforesight has gathered.
Igboho made this known via a statement titled, ‘Illegal and Grossly Unconstitutional Invasion’, on Saturday.
Eaglesforesight gathered that the popular Yoruba Nation agitator estimated his losses at N500million and demanded the same as reparation.
Igboho, who wrote to the FG through his lawyer, Yomi Alliyu, SAN, also demanded a public apology from the DSS for allegedly trampling on his fundamental rights and for destroying his Ibadan residence when the secret police raided his house in the early hours of Thursday.
The lawyer noted that his client has “always preached peace and warned his followers never to have recourse to violence saying that ‘it is God and awon irumole (ancestors) that will fight for Yoruba Nation”.
“There is nowhere in the civilised world that a citizen who had no prior invitation by security agent or had resisted arrest will be so invaded with his rights to dignity of human persons, ownership of property and sanctity of life trampled upon during the invasion.”
The counsel further alleged that those arrested in Sunday Igboho’s residence were being tortured to incriminate him that guns and ammunition were recovered from his house.
