ELECTORAL BILL: The Grave Implications These Underhanded Manipulations And Illegal Actions Will Have On Our Electoral Process.- Eaglesforesight
Don’t Legalized Vote Buying By Passing The Propose Electoral Act Amendment Bill Like This
I am perplexed about the grave implications these underhanded manipulations and illegal actions will have on our Electoral Process.
Nigerians urge the National Assembly to stop the passage of Electoral Act Amendment Bill like this because it will take away the duty of INEC and further weaken the institution sooner or later.
It’s no more a news that the National Assembly has raised campaign spending limit of a presidential candidate by 1500 percent.
But In a short statement forwarded to Eaglesforesight, the former NANS President rejected the National Assembly’s position saying it will officially Legalise Vote Buying and prepare ground for do or die Election and deny people who have the capacity to lead the opportunity.
I humbly seek to let the whole world know that there are discrepancies between the approved version of the Bill and the alleged final copy, where some key provisions have been manipulated
• The provision for yearly instalments for release of INEC funds has been removed (S.3(3))
• Electronic transmission of results has been prohibited (S.50(2))
• The power of INEC to review results declared under duress has been removed (S.65)
• The timeline within which INEC’s decision not to register a party can be legally challenged has been extended
• Thelimits on campaign expenses have been increased (S.88).
“It is unacceptable and repugnant to free and fair Election in our democratic process.”
The stoppage of the electronic transmission of results will return Nigeria to the manual system of collating and transmission of results.

Recall that All the proposed amendments to the Electoral Act might be considered and passed into law by the National Assembly in the next two weeks, according to Senate President Ahmad Lawan.
The passage of the law was earlier slated for today but postponed, following protests against the alteration.
