EDUCATION: Meet A Young Controversial Human Rights Activist, Festus Ogun (Esq), Who Becomes A Barrister Lawyer
Meet a controversial human rights activist, Festus Ogun (Esq), who was amongst the new wigs that were called to the Nigerian Bar Yesterday.
Festus Ogun Esq has been described as one of the youngest lawyers in the country today by his friends and associates.
Yesterday, he was being called to the bar with the appellation of a Barrister, Solicitor and Advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
Festus Ogun showed class and brilliance when the young lass shone like a thousand stars by defying all odds. He described his journey as one of the few among the common man who has goals to achieve with different challenges but yet never gotten discouraged nor get deter.
According to the stories shared by him on his social media handle read as follows:
Festus Ogun, Esq
Yesterday, I was called to the Nigerian Bar (largest bar in Africa) and enrolled as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. It has been a long time coming and I am forever grateful to God for the rare privilege of becoming a member of the noble legal profession.
From Pathfinder College, Ogun Waterside to Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State to the Nigerian Law School, Victoria Island, Lagos; I am forever grateful to my teachers and administrators for sound trainings, support and privilege
How about my parents and benefactors? The real Iroko behind my barn! I owe them a huge debt of gratitude. In our part of the world, being trained by parents, with meager income, is a rare privilege! I appreciate my parents for their invaluable contributions toward this journey.
Incontrovertibly, I am indeed ready and prepared for the journey and challenges ahead. Apart from my legal training at the University and the Nigerian Law School, I ensured I gained real law practice experience before my admission to the Nigerian bar. While I do not mean to sound immodest, I have gained legal training in the law firms of Olujinmi & Akeredolu, Depthfield Solicitors & Associates, DF Legal, Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), Olisa Agbakoba Legal and The Human Rights Law Service (HURILAWS). Thankfully.
Truly, my trainings (both in classroom, chambers and human rights law organizations) have prepared me to provide bespoke legal solutions to individuals, business concerns, investors, public sector and international clients. However, I will feel incomplete as a lawyer if my practice of law is not directed towards protecting, advocating and fighting for social justice, human rights and constitutional democracy in Nigeria.
This is because my excitement is not really about becoming a lawyer. It is pretty about becoming a lawyer of the oppressed, downtrodden, cheated and the marginalized. It is about becoming a lawyer for justice, human rights and the rule of law. It is about becoming a People’s Lawyer!
I look forward to the future with hope, trust and optimism.
FESTUS OGUN, ESQ
