Gen. Buhari’s Fruitless Counter-Insurgency Operations Through Military Aspects Is The Culprit Behind Attack Against NDA By Terrorists And Insurgents.

No doubt, Nigeria has become a vulnerable headquarters of terror activity in the world. But there were many countries in the world that had been confronted by the terror activities to the extent that they had recorded alot of damages. While, other countries fought the menaces of insurgency and terrorism at their preparation stage. Below are some of the historical locunas that were recorded in the course of counter-insurgency campaign through the so-called military aspects which President Muhammadu Buhari subscribe to despite its failure. Thought, it is very important to note that there was not any country in this world that suffered from insecurity like insurgency and combate the menace through the aspect of military campaign. Whereas, there were many countries that had suffered alot of damages due to insurgency and terrorism. But the situation was addressed by them through the counter-insurgency operation called non-military aspects.

Unfortunately, counter-insurgency campaigns through military aspects are costly in money as well as in manpower. For example, the french calculated that the Algeria counter-insurgency through military aspects cost them one million a day while, in the Kenya, counter-terrorism operations through military aspects had caused alot of destructions to the country’s agriculture and in Malaya there were damages to the rubber plantations and tin mines.

Imagine, Soviet guerilla activities in the Kremlin, during the second world war, claims that in two years the guerillas have killed over 300,000 Germans including 30 generals, derained 3000 trains destroyed 3263 rail and highway bridges destroyed nearly 10,000 vehicles. Another Soviet report says that during the course of the counter-insurgency campaign through the military aspects in the Ukraine alone over 300,000 Germans were killed, 4000 locomotives destroyed and nearly 40,000 freight cars blown up.

In Malaysia, 12 years of insurgency the peak of deployment of Security forces reached 30,000 regular, 60,000 para-military personel and two and half lacs homeguards. In Afghanistan, the Russian landed with ten thousand of troops on the Hamas of 1979. But the level of force reached more than a lac (115000). Also, in Kabul alone, 50,000 troops were guarding the vital installation and yet not a day passed without an incident of sabotage or destruction. When a town of Khost which is about 21 miles from Pakistan border about 110 miles from Kabul remained under siege for more than a week by Muzahadeen to breaks the siege an estimated 20000 Afghan and Russian troops supported by Soviet Sukhov-25 jets repeatedly strict terrorists and insurgents position. A small village infested by terrorists and insurgents was attacked by twenty Russian helicopters to drive them out of their border. But it is reported that Russian lost 3000 Soviets ever since they landed in Afghanistan and cost anything between $18 to 26 billion. Afghan losses estimated to be 1.5 million lives fighting by one conservative gate Soviets in year 1987 alone. Lost 270 Aircrafts worth of $2.2 billion after the America stepped up. Another report reveals that the eight years counter-insurgency campaign through military aspects had inflicted estimated damage of 10 billion. Imagine, this is the total amount spent on economic development in the last 40 years.

In Srilanka, Indian Army which had started counter-insurgency operations through military aspects with 3000 troops swelled more 60000 troops and it was costing the country more than Rs.30 million per day. More than 400 lives as per official figure and more two thousand wounded. The level of the force has reached almost double the cost to fighting must have also gone table say around 60 to 70 million a day. But the counter-insurgency operations through military aspects had failed to produce a pleasant result.

In Cyprus a colony of British Empire, British government had to induct 40000 troops to fight less than one thousand guerilla of Col. George Grwar. Ration of 40 to 1 yet could not counter the insurgency and terrorism through military aspects talkless of establishing new a social order. Because a service of MI-5 were hired to Peter Wright is a spy Catcha to eliminate Col. George Grwar in Cyprus. But the situation changed since political solution was found in 20 February, 1959.

Finally, If Nigerians want to end insecurity such as insurgency and terrorism in Nigeria. Therefore, they should deal with President M. Buhari’s administration politically. Because the absolute state of insecurity can only be addressed by Nigerians themselves.

Comrade Musa Ali Maishanu.
