“Over N500million Dialysis Equipment ‘Looted’ From General Hospital In Ota” —Residents React

Some stakeholders in health at Ota General Hospital have cried out over sudden removal of newly donated equipments at the instance of Commissioner for health in the State, Mrs. Tomi Coker.

The equipments which were donated and installed by Unilever and Lafarge are said to cost over N500million Naira, and were carefully decided to care for patients in the highly industrialized Local Government.

They include a Dialysis machine, ventilator and anesthetic hardwares respectively.

Their removal from the Ota General hospital is said to follow a decision by the State health commissioner, Mrs. Tomi Coker who moved the equipment from Ota to Abeokuta.

Eaglesforesight through Objectv Media learnt that Mrs. Coker cited absence of qualified personnel as her reason to move the equipments to Abeokuta.

But residents and stakeholder in Ota have rejected her claim, citing that there are hands operating the machines since there installation in November, 2021.

They also faulted the Commissioner’s claim, while insisting her role even in absence of qualified hands would be to help employ more personnel rather than moving the equipments to her own desired location.

“The donor organizations, Unilever and Lafarge carefully chose Ota and the types of equipments before the installations. It is wrong for the Commissioner to unilaterally decide to remove them”, Mr. Jaiyesimi, one of the stakeholders who reacted to the development told Objectv Media.

“The Government did not give us and is therefore morally wrong to come and take it away”, another stakeholder, Aremson Adeyinka said.

A lawyer and activist, Barrister Isaac Ogbah while condemning sudden removal of the equipments from Ota General Hospital, threatened legal action if the equipments are not returned in one piece.

“We are still clamoring that our roads be fixed in Ota, but since then; Government ignored us, and now the little achievements through private efforts are still being looted”, Isaac Ogbah said.
