The Executive Chairman of Sagamu Local Government, Hon. Jubril Olasile Odulate, has announced the immediate suspension of the executive leadership of both the NTA Plank Market (Sawmill) and Itesiwaju International Market, Ogijo, over persistent disregard for Local Government authority and operational guidelines.

Hon. Odulate made the announcement during a working visit to the two markets on Wednesday, accompanied by members of the Executive Council and Administrative Heads of the Council. The visit, he said, was to resolve lingering administrative issues and ensure full compliance with Local Government policies governing market operations.

Citing the Fourth Schedule, Section 1(e) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), the Council boss reaffirmed that Local Governments are constitutionally empowered to establish, maintain, and regulate markets, motor parks, and slaughterhouses.

“The control and management of all markets within Sagamu Local Government rest solely with the Council. Henceforth, the Local Government will take full charge of all market activities to restore order, peace, and accountability,” Hon. Odulate stated.

He expressed concern that despite multiple directives, the market leadership had continually violated policies guiding market administration, leaving the Council with no choice but to intervene directly.

The Chairman further disclosed that the Local Government would soon engage relevant stakeholders to design a sustainable administrative framework, after which a caretaker committee would be constituted to oversee the affairs of both markets until normalcy is restored.

During the inspection tour, the Council Chairman and his team also paid an unscheduled visit to Wesley Primary School, Sotubo, to address complaints about residents encroaching on government land within the school premises.

Hon. Odulate used the opportunity to interact with the pupils and teachers, where he advised the students to stay away from cultism, avoid truancy, and remain dedicated to their studies, reminding them that education remains the foundation of a bright future.

In a show of support for education, the Chairman pledged to personally sponsor the Common Entrance Examination fees for all 49 Primary Six pupils of the school.

“Education is a key priority of this administration. We will continue to support our pupils, safeguard public school environments, and encourage every child to pursue excellence,” he assured.
