Sunday Igboho Appeals to Ooni of Ife: Seek Tinubu’s Intervention to Clear My Name

Yoruba Nation agitator, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has appealed to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, to intercede with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to facilitate his removal from the Federal Government’s wanted list.
Igboho, who was declared wanted by the Department of State Services (DSS) in July 2021 over allegations of stockpiling arms, made the plea during a courtesy visit to the monarch at his Ile Oodua Palace in Ile-Ife on Saturday. He lamented his inability to access his bank accounts, which remain frozen, and sought the Ooni’s support in lifting the embargo.
Speaking in Yoruba, the activist expressed remorse over past verbal attacks directed at the monarch, describing the Ooni as a father figure.
“I want you to forgive and forget whatever wrong I may have done. You are my father, and you cannot cast me away. I know you have forgiven me, judging by the warm reception I received here today,” Igboho said.
He noted that his quest for reconciliation was prompted by advice from other Yoruba monarchs, including the Olowo of Owo, who urged him to visit the Ooni as the spiritual and traditional leader of Yorubaland.
Beyond personal appeals, Igboho reiterated his commitment to tackling insecurity in the South-West, declaring his readiness to mobilise forces against kidnappers and criminal gangs operating from forests in the region.

“We have the capacity to protect our people. Oodua’s descendants are not slaves to anyone. If given the mandate, we will flush out criminals from our forests and secure Yorubaland,” he said.
In his response, the Ooni commended Igboho’s courage and reaffirmed his position as a son of Ile-Ife. The monarch said he had long forgiven the activist for his past criticisms and promised to work towards facilitating his reintegration into the Nigerian system.
“Some of you abused me in the past, but I was never angry. I know you were concerned about the Yoruba cause. You are a brave man and our pride in Yorubaland,” Oba Ogunwusi said.
The Ooni assured that efforts would be made to ensure Igboho’s name is cleared from the wanted list, stressing that peace, unity, and development remain his foremost concerns for the Yoruba race.
