Julius Berger Lands N750bn Contract to Revive Abuja’s Centenary City Project

After years of inactivity, the Abuja Centenary City project is set for revival as Julius Berger Nigeria Plc has been awarded a ₦750 billion contract to deliver Phase 1 of the development’s primary infrastructure.
The announcement was made by the Managing Director of Centenary City Free Zone Enterprises, Dr. Odenigwe Ike Michaels Jr., at a media briefing in Abuja. He disclosed that the contract will be executed in lots, with Lot 1 covering a 4.3-kilometre plot access road as well as secondary infrastructure for The Grove Residences, The Safari Park Residences, and The Ridge Villas.
To ensure world-class standards, the firm has retained Dar Al-Handasah Consultants (DAR)—the international company behind the city’s original master plan—to oversee the detailed engineering design.
“After a pause in construction, the project is back on track with the promise to redefine sub-Saharan Africa’s skyline and reinforce Nigeria’s position in global urban development,” Dr. Michaels said.
A Vision for a Smart City
Conceived as Abuja’s flagship urban renewal initiative, Centenary City is planned as a smart, eco-friendly city designed to integrate seamlessly with the natural landscape. Its blueprint combines a vibrant downtown district with tranquil suburban communities, aiming to provide residents and investors with a cosmopolitan lifestyle.
