The recently concluded bye-election in Remo Federal Constituency was unprecedented, marked by fierce competition, shifting loyalties, and the familiar turbulence of Nigerian party politics. Yet, in the midst of it all, one name stood out, not as much for electoral victory, as for the groundswell of admiration and goodwill he earned among the people; the name of Michael ADEWALE Adesanya.

At 37, ADEWALE represents the new face of leadership in Remo. A son of Emuren under Sagamu LGA, his profile is reminiscent of a global achiever, aspiring to the ranks of Tai Solarin and Chief Obafemi Awolowo. He is a First-Class graduate of Chemical Engineering from the University of Lagos, Africa Scholar of the MBA program at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, former executive at Procter & Gamble, Jumia, and Gap Inc. in San Francisco, and co-founder of Suplias, a Y Combinator-backed start-up. He also founded Oris, a platform designed for innovative workforce management and job creation for salespeople.

Despite his professional achievements, Adewale’s first real test in politics came under difficult circumstances. Running under the banner of the Labour Party with a bold new vision for Remo’s restoration, his ambition was hampered by the party’s internal leadership crisis. Court cases, rival factions, and INEC-recognized disputes over tenure left the party struggling with disqualifications and uncertainty in candidate nominations. These structural problems effectively denied Adewale a full and fair representation on the ballot.

Yet, his brand of leadership is not constrained to ballot boxes. His candidacy captured the imagination of many young voters across the grassroots of the Remo constituency. On social media and community platforms, residents of Remo praised his pedigree, vision and interest in the welfare of the common man.

“If not that I can’t do anti-party, his profile is quite compelling,” one party loyalist admitted.

“He should bring Y Combinator to Remo; many startups here need funding. It’s time we have a Remo Tech Hub,” suggested a young tech enthusiast, one of many clamoring for the modernization of Remo’s agrarian economy.

This wave of admiration reflects a deeper truth: ADEWALE’s influence extends far beyond the election cycle. Through the Adewale Students Conference (ASC), he has impacted over 5,000 students, awarding 150+ scholarships and promoting STEM education. His Womenpreneur Program has already supported 100+ women with interest-free loans, with a target of 1,000 within the next one year; while his interventions in healthcare have seen the renovation of primary health centers across local communities.

His three-point agenda on Education, Empowerment, and Social Infrastructure resonated strongly with young people who saw in him a credible alternative to recycled, distant leadership. In many ways, ADEWALE’s emergence has added substance the political discourse in Remo, proving that competence, global exposure, and grassroots service can coexist in one leader.

While the Labour Party’s crisis may have derailed his immediate chances, ADEWALE leaves this election season with something more valuable than votes; a growing movement of supporters and admirers who see him as a symbol of a new political dawn in Remo.

As one voter summed it up in raw emotion:

“This guy should be the face of Sagamu.… I LOVE YOU, ADEWALE.”

The 2025 elections may have denied him a seat in Abuja for now, but they have also highlighted his emergence as one of the most promising and inspiring figures in Remo’s political future. For Michael Adewale Adesanya, this is only the beginning. For Remo, the dream lives on.
