US Embassy Mandates Nigerians to Submit 5-Year Social Media History for Visa Applications

The United States Mission in Nigeria (US Embassy) has announced that all visa applicants must provide a comprehensive record of their social media history covering the last five years.
In a statement shared via its official X handle on Monday, August 18, 2025, the Mission explained that applicants are required to disclose all usernames and handles used across any social media platform within the stated period when filling out the DS-160 visa application form.
The Embassy stressed that this requirement is compulsory and applicants must certify that the information provided is true and accurate before submission. It added that failure to comply, whether by omission or providing misleading details, could have serious consequences on current and future visa eligibility.

“Visa applicants are required to list all social media usernames or handles of every platform they have used from the last five years on the DS-160 visa application form,” the Embassy noted. “Omitting social media information could lead to visa denial and ineligibility for future visas.”
The directive, according to the Mission, is part of enhanced vetting procedures to ensure transparency and maintain the integrity of the US visa process.
This development means Nigerians seeking to travel to the United States will now need to exercise greater caution and honesty in disclosing their digital footprints, as incomplete or inaccurate entries will not be overlooked.
