The Fusengbuwa Ruling House of Ijebu-Ode, the family next in line to produce the Awujale following the passing of Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona of the Ogbagba Anikilaya Ruling House, on Sunday held ancestral prayers at its historic ‘Ile Nla Agusenbi’ royal home.

The gathering, which blended solemn rites with family unity, saw the formal admission of new members through the traditional rite of ikaro. They were received by the Olori-Ebi, Prince Adedokun Oreagba, and other elders of the lineage.

The event drew notable dignitaries including Alhaji Prince Fathai Arolowo, Chairman of Aron Construction Ltd; HRH Oba Tajudeen Bello, Enisemu Leguru of Ijebuland and Olowa of Ijebu-Ode; Chief Razaq Adeleye Osimodi, the Abore of Awujale; as well as Prince Adeleke Adeyemi, General Secretary of the four ruling houses. Also in attendance were Prince Folu Ogidan Aderibigbe, Prince Olaseni Samsideen Ottun, Omo-Oba Toibu Mabaweje, and representatives of other ruling houses.

In his address, Chief Ajidagba, the Olori-Ebi of the Fusengbuwa family, underscored unity and spiritual preparedness as key pillars for the succession process. He reminded attendees that the Fusengbuwa dynasty had historically produced 25 Awujales and said the gathering was a step toward upholding tradition and seeking divine guidance.

“We mourn the passing of Oba Sikiru Adetona, but once the mourning period is over, we will begin the succession process in earnest,” he said. He also disclosed that more than 200 princes and princesses were present with their ikaros, reaffirming loyalty to the family. He stressed that his position as Olori-Ebi was duly affirmed by the late monarch, noting that the Awujale had no authority to appoint an Olori-Ebi for any ruling house.

“The late Awujale altered some traditions of Ijebu-Ode, but we are restoring things to the right path. Mechanisms will be put in place to ensure a fair and transparent process under my watch,” Ajidagba declared.

Other speakers, including Otunba Fathai Arolowo and Prince Folu Ogidan Aderibigbe, reinforced the message of unity and continuity. Arolowo expressed full support for the Olori-Ebi, while Aderibigbe described the gathering as “an awakening session” to honour ancestors and prepare for a forward-looking leadership. Prince Olaseni Samsideen Ottun added prayers for wisdom and strength for the elders in steering the family through the succession process.

The Fusengbuwa Ruling House remains poised to play its historic role in shaping the future of Ijebuland as preparations for the enthronement of the next Awujale gradually take shape.
