As the August 16 bye-election for the Remo Federal Constituency draws closer, Alhaji Hassan Seriki, a political strategist and former Director of Contact and Mobilization for ABOCO during the 2023 general elections, has issued a strong appeal for a peaceful and credible electoral process.

Speaking from Etobicoke, Canada, Seriki emphasized that peaceful elections are the cornerstone of democratic growth and social development. According to him, allowing electorates to freely and safely choose their representatives is not just a constitutional right but a democratic necessity.

Seriki reaffirmed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remains committed to upholding these values during the forthcoming poll.

“This is what the PDP believes in and will uphold during the coming bye-election,” Seriki stated. “Unfortunately, what I witnessed in the last election — ballot snatching, burning of materials, and multiple thumb printing allegedly orchestrated by the APC — will no longer be acceptable. The people of Remo deserve better.”

The PDP chieftain called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to ensure a transparent process, noting that the protection of ballot boxes and voting materials must be a shared priority. He stressed that the people of Remo have a role to play by remaining vigilant and resisting any attempt to disrupt the exercise.

Expressing confidence in the PDP’s flag bearer, Hon. Bola Oluwole, Seriki described him as the clear choice of the people, citing his competence, capacity, and wealth of experience. “We are pretty confident that Hon. Bola Oluwole will deliver quality representation. He understands the needs of the constituency and has the leadership qualities to meet them,” he said.

Concluding his remarks, Seriki wished the people of Remo a successful and violence-free election. He urged all political stakeholders to put the interest of the people above partisan gains, warning that any repeat of past electoral malpractice would not be tolerated. “The world is watching, and history will judge our actions,” he declared.
