Residents of the Sabo area in Sagamu Local Government, Ogun State, have expressed renewed hope and appreciation following the official commissioning of the newly reconstructed Sode Street — a strategic infrastructure upgrade aimed at improving access, transportation, and overall living conditions in the bustling community.

The project, commissioned on Wednesday, was declared open by Honourable Ademola Adeniran Adeyinka, popularly known as Sapele, who represents Sagamu Constituency II at the Ogun State House of Assembly. He performed the ceremony on behalf of the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun.

In his remarks, Hon. Sapele hailed the reconstruction as a critical step in addressing long-standing infrastructural decay in the area, describing it as a “solution-driven intervention” that aligns with the broader development vision of the current administration at both local and state levels.

“This road represents more than just asphalt and drainage. It’s a reflection of a government that listens and responds to the needs of its people,” Sapele said. “I commend Governor Abiodun and Chairman Odulate for consistently putting the welfare of residents at the forefront.”

Sode Street, once notorious for its poor state and frequent flooding, has now undergone a complete transformation. The reconstruction includes reinforced drainage systems and a durable, motorable surface to withstand seasonal rains and the daily pressure of vehicular traffic.

Local residents who attended the ceremony could not hide their excitement. Many described the project as timely and impactful, especially for traders, motorists, and pedestrians who use the route frequently.

Mrs. Adebisi Kareem, a resident and shop owner in the area, expressed her satisfaction:

“This road used to be a nightmare. We often closed our shops during heavy rains. Today, we’re proud to say development has reached Sabo.”

The initiative is part of the broader #IgbegaIjobaIbileSagamu agenda — a grassroots development blueprint spearheaded by the Executive Chairman of Sagamu Local Government, Ogbeni Jubril Olasile Odulate. The agenda is focused on repositioning the local government through strategic infrastructure, service delivery, and inclusive governance.

Speaking after the commissioning, Chairman Odulate reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering quality projects across wards in Sagamu, promising that Soda Street is only one of many transformations in the pipeline.

“Our people deserve better. This is not politics; it’s progress,” Odulate stated. “We will continue to prioritize projects that touch lives directly and foster economic growth.”

The Sode Street reconstruction marks the second major road unveiling in recent months under the current local government leadership, signaling a renewed push for urban renewal and sustainable community development in Sagamu.

As the administration continues to roll out more projects, expectations remain high among residents who say they are witnessing tangible change for the first time in years.
