Fubara, Wike, Amaewhule Reunite Publicly After Tinubu’s Peace Meeting

In what appears to be a significant step towards political reconciliation in Rivers State, embattled Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his estranged predecessor and current FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, and suspended Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, were seen together publicly on Saturday in what many observers consider a major turning point in the lingering crisis.
The trio made a surprise joint appearance at a funeral service held in Rumueprikom, the hometown of Wike, located in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.
This development comes just two days after a renewed peace initiative led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where both camps were reportedly urged to de-escalate tensions and embrace dialogue for the sake of governance and public interest.
The Rivers political arena has been mired in deep crisis for nearly two years, fueled by a fierce fallout between Governor Fubara and his once-powerful political godfather, Wike. Their rift has fragmented the state’s political structure, pitting the executive against the legislature and resulting in power tussles that have drawn national attention.

Saturday’s outing, attended by several high-profile figures, has sparked fresh optimism about a possible resolution. In attendance were Senators Allwell Onyesoh, George Thompson Sekibo, and Olaka Nwogu. Also present were former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Rt. Hon. Chibudom Nwuche, former lawmaker Hon. Ken Chikere, APC South-South Vice Chairman Victor Giadom, and PDP stalwart Dr. Sam Sam Jaja, among others.
While none of the key actors made any public statements at the event, their joint presence is widely viewed as a symbolic gesture suggesting a possible softening of positions.
Reliable sources within Government House indicate that Governor Fubara is expected to convene a private meeting with his core supporters later today. The closed-door session is expected to provide a debrief on the Abuja meeting with President Tinubu and to set the tone for the next phase of political engagement.
As the nation watches closely, stakeholders are hopeful that this rare public alignment signals the beginning of genuine peace in one of Nigeria’s most politically sensitive states.
