Adekunle Akinlade, a former House of Representatives member and ex-governorship candidate in Ogun State under the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), has announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing deep-rooted leadership failures and internal party crises.

In a statement personally signed and made available to journalists in Abeokuta, Akinlade explained that his decision came after extensive consultations with political allies, party stakeholders, and family members.

“This decision follows a period of reflection and honest engagements with those who believe in the ideals we stood for,” he said. “I am officially resigning my membership of the PDP with immediate effect.”

Akinlade lamented the persistent internal turmoil plaguing the Ogun State chapter of the PDP, which he claimed had derailed efforts to unify and reposition the party for future success.

“Despite our efforts to instill credible leadership and promote inclusiveness within the party, we were constantly confronted with institutional disregard and deliberate acts of sabotage, both at the zonal and national levels,” he stated.

The former federal lawmaker, who once contested the Ogun governorship seat under APM before aligning with the PDP, expressed gratitude to his supporters for their unwavering commitment. He wished the party well in its future endeavors.

His exit is expected to trigger realignments within the Ogun political landscape, especially as the 2027 general elections draw closer.
