Former federal lawmaker and media entrepreneur, Senator Ben Murray-Bruce, has voiced his belief that Nigerian Afrobeats megastar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has the potential to become the Governor of Osun State in the future.

Murray-Bruce made the statement during a recent episode of his “Common Sense” series, where he emphasized the singer’s political awareness, influential background, and strong connection to the people—qualities he believes could translate into political leadership.

“Davido isn’t just a global music icon or one of Nigeria’s top cultural ambassadors; he also carries within him a strong political consciousness. From our personal conversations, it’s clear he has well-defined political views and a deep interest in governance,” Murray-Bruce stated.

He highlighted the Adeleke family’s established political legacy, noting that Davido’s uncle, Senator Ademola Adeleke, is the incumbent Governor of Osun State, while another uncle, the late Senator Isiaka Adeleke, also held the governorship position during Nigeria’s military era.

“With such a lineage and his mass appeal—especially among the youth—Davido stepping into politics isn’t far-fetched. In fact, if he decides to run for Governor of Osun State one day, I believe he has a strong chance of winning,” Murray-Bruce added.

The former senator also underscored a broader point: the growing need for entertainers and creatives to get involved in politics. According to him, their influence across various demographics positions them to bring energy, innovation, and relatability to Nigeria’s political landscape.

As Nigeria’s political future continues to evolve, conversations like this signal a possible shift where celebrity influence could play a larger role in governance, especially with the support of a politically conscious youth population.
