Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has officially launched the construction of key rural roads in Ikorodu Local Government Area.

The flagged-off projects include Monsuru Egbeyemi Street and Alhaja Agbaje Street, with adjoining link roads such as Adlas Arisa Street and parts of Cyril Street. The 1.3-kilometre initiative is designed to improve mobility, stimulate local commerce, and enhance the overall quality of life for residents.

At the commissioning ceremony, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, described the development as a transformative step toward bridging the urban-rural divide. He noted that the roads will feature comprehensive drainage systems, culverts, solar-powered streetlights, lane markings, and kerb painting—reflecting the Sanwo-Olu administration’s unwavering commitment to the T.H.E.M.E.S Plus agenda, particularly in the areas of transportation and traffic management.

“This isn’t just about building roads—it’s about opening up economic corridors, connecting communities, and laying a foundation for prosperity,” Agbaje stated. “Farmers will have easier access to markets, students to schools, and businesses to customers.”

Assuring the public of the project’s timely delivery, Agbaje emphasized that experienced contractors have been engaged and that the Office of Rural Development will oversee strict project monitoring to maintain quality standards.

She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to extending developmental strides across all communities and urged residents to support the contractors by providing an enabling environment.

In goodwill messages, former Lagos State Deputy Governor, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, and other dignitaries applauded Governor Sanwo-Olu for prioritizing the needs of Ikorodu residents. Prince Ogunleye urged landlords not to exploit the development through arbitrary rent increases, appealing for compassion toward tenants.

As construction work is set to begin, the initiative signals another bold step by the Lagos State Government to ensure inclusive development and enhance rural livelihoods.
