Police Raid Hideouts, Arrest 20 Suspected Student Cultists In Sagamu As Sagamu Youths, Security Agencies Intensify Crackdown On School Cultism

Sagamu, Ogun State – In a decisive move to curb the rising menace of cultism among secondary school students, a joint operation involving security agencies and the Sagamu Youth Association led to the arrest of no fewer than twenty suspected student cultists across several schools in Sagamu.
The operation, carried out Sagamu Area Commander, DPO Sakura and DPO Igbobi on Tuesday morning, targeted identified hideouts, including Ibu River and secret meeting spots behind Sagamu High School, Kara and Ayepe road area, where students allegedly engage in cult activities during school hours. The affected schools include Sagamu High School, Makun High School, Soyindo Community High School, Batoro Community Grammar School, and Muslim High School, among others who flee upon seeing the task forces.
According to reports, the crackdown followed alarms raised by school authorities and community youths over an emerging gang of student cultists, who were causing unrest by extorting valuables from fellow students and engaging in violent activities in the public.
Preliminary investigations carried out by revealed that the arrested students are linked to cult groups known as Pankere Girls (P.G.), and Junior Birds (J.B.).

“It was reported that a majority of these students were involved in cult-related activities, perpetuating disturbances, and extorting valuables from fellow students. The police have commenced a thorough investigation to determine the extent of cult activities within these schools and prevent further occurrences.”
The Sagamu Youth Association and security agencies have reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring peace and safety in schools and the community. They have called on the state government, local authorities, and parents to actively support the fight against student cultism by:
Strengthening school security to monitor and curb cult recruitment activities.
Implementing mentorship and youth empowerment programs to engage students positively.
Enforcing stricter disciplinary measures in schools while also prioritizing counseling and rehabilitation for affected students.
Encouraging community vigilance to report suspicious activities linked to cultism.
