Senate Spokesperson Slams Natasha Akpoti For Kissing Husband At N’Assembly, Calls It ‘Sickening’

The spokesperson of the Nigerian Senate, Yemi Adaramodu, has criticized Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan for sharing a brief kiss with her husband, Emmanuel Uduaghan, at the National Assembly Complex, describing the act as “morally wrong” and “stomach-churning.”

On March 5, Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, arrived at the Senate complex with her husband before proceeding to the chamber to submit a sexual harassment petition against Senate President Godswill Akpabio. The couple, dressed in white, exchanged a brief kiss before she walked into the plenary session.

Reacting to the moment, Adaramodu, in an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, condemned the public display of affection, stating that it was inappropriate in a legislative setting.

“This is bewildering… I was watching all the clips. It’s quite sickening and omnipotently pathetic… Is this where we are? The legislature is the first arm of government, and this is happening?” he said.

The Senate spokesperson likened the act to a stage play, adding that such conduct was unsuitable for the National Assembly.

“When I saw my colleague Natasha Akpoti entering with a kiss, it reminded me of when we used to act in school plays. Is this where we are still? It is unthinkable and unspeakable.”

When asked whether it was wrong for Akpoti-Uduaghan’s husband to accompany her to the Senate in solidarity, Adaramodu dismissed it as unnecessary.

“Solidarity over what? Over internal matters in the Senate? It is legal, but socially, morally, and politically wrong. Not all legal things are appropriate for adults to act upon,” he argued.

The lawmaker’s remarks have sparked debates, with many questioning whether the reaction to the kiss was an attempt to distract from the sexual harassment petition against Akpabio.
