Reps Order NCC To Block All Pornographic Websites In Nigeria

The House of Representatives has directed the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to compel internet service providers (ISPs) to block access to all pornographic websites in the country with immediate effect.
The resolution was passed on Tuesday following a motion sponsored by Hon. Dalhatu Tafoki, an All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker from Katsina State. Tafoki raised concerns over the rising influence of cyber pornography, describing it as a global menace that has not been adequately addressed in Nigeria.
According to him, Nigeria, being a religious country, should take decisive action against explicit content, citing the steps taken by several Asian, African, and Middle Eastern nations that have enacted laws banning pornography.

“Renowned psychologists and sociologists have warned about the psychological, sociological, and mental consequences of viewing pornographic content. It has been linked to the rise in adultery, prostitution, and addiction,” Tafoki argued.
Following deliberations, Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, subjected the motion to a voice vote, with the majority of lawmakers backing the resolution.
The House further directed the NCC to enforce strict penalties against ISPs that fail to comply with the directive.
