Ikorodu North APC Members Reject Party Chairman, Hon. Olasunkanmi Jimoh Tijani’s Chairmanship Ambition

A political storm is brewing in Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area (LCDA) as members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) vehemently oppose the chairmanship ambition of Hon. Olasunkanmi Jimoh Tijani, the current APC party chairman in the LCDA.
In a document circulating around Party secretariats and Internet, party members accuse Tijani, who has held multiple leadership positions for over two decades, of attempting to manipulate the system to assume executive power at the expense of younger, more competent aspirants. His candidacy is seen as a self-serving move that could destabilize the party and hinder development in the council.
Many APC members argue that Ikorodu North LCDA deserves fresh leadership, pointing out that other councils in Ikorodu Division have embraced younger, dynamic leaders. They highlight examples such as:
Hon. Babajimi Benson – Elected as a Federal House of Representatives member in his early 40s in 2015.
Hon. Sesan Daini – Became Igbogbo Baiyeku LCDA Chairman in his late 30s in 2017.
Hon. Motunrayo Gbadebo-Alogba – Became Ijede LCDA Chairman in her early 30s in 2021.
Despite these precedents, Hon. Olasunkanmi Jimoh Tijani, who is in his 70s, is pushing to become the next chairman of Ikorodu North LCDA, a move many APC members find outrageous and regressive.
APC members accuse Tijani of using his position as the Ikorodu North APC Chairman, Divisional Chairman of Ikorodu Division, and Revenue Chairman to intimidate party members and suppress younger aspirants.
They also allege that he has controlled the local government’s revenue system for over 10 years without significant improvement, raising doubts about his ability to bring meaningful development if elected as chairman.
Furthermore, concerns are growing over the domination of political power by Ward E2, Erikorodo, where the incumbent chairman, Hon. Adeola Banjo, has served for nearly a decade. Tijani, who hails from the same ward, is accused of attempting to marginalize other political wards in Ikorodu North LCDA.

“Enough is Enough” – Party Members Call for Intervention
Frustrated party members are now calling on the Lagos APC leadership and Ikorodu Division stakeholders to intervene and prevent what they describe as a selfish and retrogressive political maneuver.
A party stalwart, speaking anonymously, said:
“Tijani has been at the center of Ikorodu North politics for over 20 years. He has benefited immensely from the system, yet he now wants to hijack power for himself. It is time to allow fresh ideas and capable hands to take over. We cannot continue to recycle the same set of people.”
Many within the APC fear that allowing Tijani’s ambition to stand could divide the party and weaken its chances in the upcoming local government elections.
With the 2025 local government elections fast approaching, APC members are warning of a political crisis if party leaders fail to act. Some liken Tijani’s move to elder statesmen like Prince Abiodun Ogunleye or Pa Olorunfunmi Bashorun suddenly contesting for LCDA chairmanship instead of providing mentorship to younger politicians.
The battle lines have been drawn, and party members insist that Ikorodu North LCDA must break free from political domination and power hoarding.
As the tension escalates, the big question remains: Will the APC leadership in Lagos heed the cries of its members, or will it allow one man’s ambition to overshadow the collective progress of Ikorodu North LCDA?
As at the time of filing this report, the efforts to reach out to Hon. Olasunkanmi Jimoh Tijani is abortive while this media house is hoping to reach out soon.
