Parliamentary Group Commends Reps Committee On University Education Over Budget Consideration

The Parliamentary Watch Initiative (PWI) has applauded the House of Representatives Committee on University Education for its outstanding work in the budgetary process.

 

According to the Initiative, the committee demonstrated a thorough and meticulous approach in its budget consideration, ensuring that the allocation aligns with the nation’s development goals.

 

The PWI, at a press conference on Monday in Abuja, said it carefully monitored the budget exercises in both the Senate and House and was particularly impressed by the thorough and meticulous approach adopted by the House Committee on University Education.

 

In his address,  Executive Director Dr. Matthew Gabriel hailed the committee’s efforts to engage with stakeholders, including university administrators, academics, and students.

 

The Initiative praised the committee’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and good governance, noting that its independence and objectivity are essential in ensuring effective use of budget allocation.

 

Gabriel acknowledged the committee’s leadership, particularly Chairman Hon. Hassan Fulata, for his vision, dedication, and commitment to promoting university education in Nigeria.

 

“We were thrilled by the committee’s commitment to ensuring that the budget allocation for university education aligns with the nation’s development goals. The committee’s efforts to engage with stakeholders, including university administrators, academics, and students, demonstrate its dedication to ensuring that the budget meets the needs of the sector,” the statement said.

 

“Furthermore, the committee’s scrutiny of the budget proposals and its insistence on transparency and accountability are commendable. The committee’s work is a shining example of effective parliamentary oversight, and its commitment to promoting the development of university education in Nigeria is laudable.

 

“We believe that the committee’s efforts will have a positive impact on the quality of education in Nigerian universities and will contribute to the nation’s socio-economic development.

 

The committee’s leadership has shown remarkable courage and resilience in the face of challenges and opposition. Its determination to ensure that the budget allocation for university education is used judiciously and for the benefit of all stakeholders is commendable.

 

“We hail the committee for not succumbing to blackmail and for standing firm in the face of pressure from vested interests. Its commitment to transparency, accountability, and good governance is exemplary, and its refusal to compromise on these principles is a testament to its integrity.

The Initiative also advised other National Assembly committees to emulate the House Committee on University Education’s exemplary approach to budget consideration.
