INEC To Conduct LG Elections Will Complete The Rescue Mission For The Masses – Honourable Damilare Mohammed Bello

In a bold move to strengthen Nigeria’s democracy, Honourable Oluwadamilare Mohammad Bello has called for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to take charge of conducting local government elections. This, he believes, will bring an end to the contradictions surrounding local government financial autonomy, as ruled by the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

According to Hon. Damilare Bello, allowing INEC to conduct local government elections will ensure fairness, transparency, and accountability. It will also put an end to the manipulation of results, which has been a hallmark of local government elections in the past.

He noted that when INEC conducts local government elections, it will give the people the confidence to participate in the electoral process, knowing that their votes will count. This, he said, will lead to a strengthening of democracy and a greater exercise of constitutional rights by the people.

Hon. Bello also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting the local government autonomy bill, but emphasized that more needs to be done to ensure the full implementation of true federalism in Nigeria.

He stressed that state governments should not be involved in conducting local government elections, tampering with local government funds, or hindering the ability of local governments to provide basic services like childcare, education, agriculture, and job opportunities.
