AFCON 2024: President Tinubu Approves N12bn Outstanding Payments For National Teams
As Africa Cup of Nation, AFCON 2024 is near, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the payment of N12 billion to clear outstanding payments of salaries for the Super Eagles and Nigeria’s other national teams of various sports.
The approval was announced in a statement on the X handle of the president’s media centre.
The statement said the money is expected to clear the senior national team coach salaries running up to 15 months, payments of allowances and promises due to the senior national teams, females, and U-20 national team.

“The payment entails the clearing of the senior national team coach salaries running up to 15 months, payments of allowances and promises due to the senior national teams, females, and Under-20 national team.
“This is coming at a time when the Super Eagles of Nigeria are preparing to participate in the Africa Cup of Nations, which is billed to start later this month.”
Nigeria are in Group A in the tournament which will begin next Saturday in Ivory Coast.
The Eagles will face Ivory Coast (the hosts), Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau in the group stage.
