Stop Suffocating Local Authorities, Let Them Breathe — Ogun AAC Chairman, Adesina Tells Abiodun
The Ogun State African Action Congress, AAC State Chairman, Adesina Afolabi has called out Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State and other state governors to allow the elected local government Chairmen to carry out thier people’s mandate successfully.
“The recent allegation of Ijebu East local government chairman in Ogun State, Hon. Wale Adedayo shows that Nigerian governors are hellbent in stifling the authority of the local council.”
“The Nigerian constitution make provision for the autonomy of the local government in administering the resources and allocation given to them as to cater for the yearnings and aspiration of the people within the locality. But the unitary style adopted by the governors has made it difficult for the elected representative to carry out thier statutory duties.”
“Mr. Wale Adedayo confirmed that monthly allocation, ecological fund and other subvention fund from the federal government have not been given to any local government in Ogun State since 2021. Then how will a sitting council chairman perform.”
“It was learnt that the state (Ogun) always attend the monthly FAAC meetings but failed to adopt the outcome of the meeting by sharing what belong to the local council to them.”
“While the people that voted them in will be waiting for dividend of democracy. This development has made majority of these chairmen a laughing stock and one without competence to run a local government successfully.”
