OGUN: Police Gun Down ‘Madman’ For Beheading 84-year-old [Watch Video]

A 32-year-old man, David Shodola, who was suspected to be mentally ill, on Friday, threw Ipara town, Remo-North Local Government Area of Ogun State into confusion after allegedly beheading an 84-year-old resident, Alfred Opadipe.

The ‘madman’ was, however, shot dead by men of the state police command after he reportedly resisted arrest.

An eye witness, Kunle who’s a resident of Ipara Remo revealed to The Eaglesforesight correspondent that the mad man was a young fellow who has been parading and tormenting the area, chasing people with cutlass and bottles.

Our correspondent gathered that the mad Man became furious in the early morning of July 21, 2023 as he went ahead and beheaded a landlord in the area.

A nine-minute-and-eight-second video clip, which went viral on Friday, showed the lifeless body of the octogenarian on the ground with the head a few metres away.

Some residents were seen gathering at the scene to behold the gory incident.

An eyewitness, who spoke in the clip, revealed that the victim was killed by a “madman”.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Omotola Odutola, confirmed the incident in a terse statement in Abeokuta on Friday.

Odutola said the command received a distress call from an informant on the matter as policemen, led by the Isara Divisional Police Officer, CSP Bankole Eluyeru, were deployed in the scene.

She said, “The Divisional Police Isara, CSP Bankole Eluyeru, made an attempt to arrest the suspect, but he used the machete on the DPO and his men. The police succeeded in neutralising the suspect and the weapon was recovered from him.”

Odutola, however, said there was no recount of the suspect being mentally ill from the intelligence the police gathered.
