Ahead of governorship primary elections in Kogi State, members of the Kogi West Women and Youths for Dino have called on the National Working Committee (NWC) and other critical stakeholders in the People Democratic Party (PDP) to give the party’s ticket to Senator Dino Melaye.

The women and youths from the 21 local government areas of the state gathered at the state secretariat of the PDP in Lokoja yesterday to declare their support for Melaye from Kogi to govern the state.

The spokesman of the group and legal adviser of the PDP in Lokoja local government area, Mahmoud Aliyu, said the group gathered in Lokoja to declare their unalloyed support for Dino Melaye to become sole governorship candidate on the platform of PDP.

He described Melaye as the only capable and fearless among the PDP aspirants that can wrestle power from the hands of the APC led administration that has plunged the state into a precarious situation.

He lamented that since the inception of the APC government in Kogi State, the payment of percentage salaries had been the order of the day at the local government areas, noting that if Melaye was given the ticket he would dislodge APC and right the wrongs of the present administration in the state.

Aliyu therefore appealed to PDP leaders both at the national and state level of the party to give the governorship ticket of the party to Melaye to win the election for the PDP.

Lokoja Ward D women leader, Elizabeth Awelewa in her remarks said for equity and fairness an aspirant from Kogi west should be given the ticket of the PDP, saying since the creation of the state, the western senatorial district had never produced the governor of the state.

She appealed to PDP stakeholders to give the ticket to Melaye in the spirit of justice.

The youth leader, PDP Lokoja local government area Lawal Ibrahim said the group gathered to show solidarity with Melaye whom he described as capable to pilot the affairs of the state.

He appealed to the delegates to vote wisely in order to pick a competent candidate who can protect the interest of common man in the state.
