Belligerent youths stopped motorists from plying the ever-busy road as the burnt tyres on the roads and vandalised properties.
The riot broke out in the morning as hoodlums unleashed mayhem, motorists were making U-turn to avoid being caught in the crisis.
School children and passers-by ran helter and skelter as hoodlums battled police and soldiers mobilised to quell the riot.
Messages were being sent on twitter for people to avoid Ojota, Ketu and Mile 12 as the places are boiling.

Banks, companies, schools, shops and others were shut in the area as the riot spread.

But Spokesperson, Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the unrest in the area, saying there is heavy detachment of policemen in the area to maintain sanity.
He later tweeted to say that normalcy had returned to the area.
“Free movement of vehicles and people fully restored. Our officers and men are still on ground to prevent any breakdown of law and order. If you see something, say something,” he said.
There was also protest at Okekoto area of Agege as youths set tyres ablaze on the main road.
