No Extension of UTME Registration – Oloyede
The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, said on Friday that there would be no extension of time for registration for this year’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.
The one-month registration window for the UTME ends on Feb. 14 and Oloyede, speaking on an inspection tour of some JAMB computer centers in Osogbo, Osun State, said the inspection was to ensure that there was no extortion of the customers.
Some parents in some of the centers visited had applied for an extension of the registration time as the challenges of naira notes redesign, which had led to cash shortages, prevented them from purchasing the personal identification number for their ward.
But the JAMB boss said, ‘I am going around the country to monitor the registration exercise and especially draw attention to those who commit offences; we get reports on what is going on in the state.
“We have intelligence on the ground, so if we are told that you saw what happened to Osun State College of Education, once you have the information (and) we will now go there if it requires me to go there with my officials, I will.
“You know, in the past candidates complained about extortion, but you can see we made it almost impossible for them to do that. We have deployed both human and technological resources to detect violations. You can see that the problem of no signal is not happening this year.
“So what we’re doing is improving on what we did last year and that’s why we’re available in every part of the country to monitor strict regulatory compliance.”
Oloyede added: “We are not considering an extension because anyone withdrawing money is not following our instructions. You transfer money and when you do, you get the pin code; we do not sell a physical PIN.”
