Former Secretary of the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal said on Friday that he regretted campaigning for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the last election with Muhammadu Buhari emerging as president.

“Nothing works under the APC government.

“I’m sorry I campaigned for the party.

“I have now seen the light that is Peter Obi and so have converted,” Mr Lawal said on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

Mr Lawal made the comment while analyzing Labor Party presidential candidate Peter Obi’s chances in the upcoming February presidential election.

He believes Peter Obi’s growing popularity in least expected areas will be a deciding factor in the upcoming presidential election.

“PvdA is gaining strength in unexpected areas; it is taking the APC and PDP by storm because they never initially included Peter Obi in the political permutations,” he said.

Nigerians lament the current economic woes under the APC-led government with less than 22 days to the poll.

Some analysts believe that given the current situation in the country, there is strong evidence that the result of the election could have a slightly negative impact on the ruling party if left unaddressed.
