The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remain completely neutral and transparent in its activities regarding the upcoming general election.

The student organization made the call in a statement that was made available to Grandstand online by the association’s national public relations officer, Mr. Tope Giwa, on Friday.

As a body, NANS closely monitors all INEC activities related to the ongoing electoral process in the country, according to the statement.

“We expect INEC to strictly play by the rules and to be fair and impartial to all political parties, ultimately delivering nothing but credible elections for Nigerians.”

“So we, the students, like many other Nigerians, will continue to monitor and monitor INEC’s actions and inactions until the elections are over.

“We all know that this year’s election is not like any other election in the country.

“The elections are of great importance for the future of Nigeria and its people.

“So we are all eager to use this election, especially the presidential election, to bring about a real change that will lead us to overcome the overwhelming challenges placed on us by the current administration.

“INEC must therefore not be influenced in any way by any political party or individual, but rather to safeguard the will of the people and protect the integrity of their votes.”

However, the students disclosed that there are still many of them who have applied for the permanent voter cards (PVCs) at school and have yet to collect their PVCs to this day.

Therefore, they urged INEC to make a special arrangement for such students in different campuses to collect their PVCs so that they can participate in the vote.
