Gunmen attack anti-sect formation in Anambra

Gunmen attacked a police facility used by anti-cult operatives in the Obosi community, in the Idemili North local government area of ​​Anambra state, at about 11 p.m. Thursday.

NIGERIAN STAND also gathered that the gunmen killed a police officer and were also able to burn down a building in the formation using a petrol bomb.

However, the Anambra State Police Command confirmed the incident, saying a massive deployment of officers was sent to the area immediately after the command received information about the attack.

State police spokesman DSP Toochukwu Ikenga said: “Our men were immediately moved there, and they were able to fight the gunmen, and also found some improvised explosive devices (IED), which have not been used.

“Our men held their ground and managed to fend off the attackers.

“The men came in their numbers, using three vehicles. A Toyota Highlander, a Toyota Sienna and a Corolla car.

“Due to the deployment, the attackers were unable to deal damage at the level they expected. They had to flee.

“Meanwhile, we lost a police officer in the attack. He was hit by a bullet from the attackers. Also, the petrol bomb used by the attackers set fire to one of the buildings in the formation.

“As I speak to you, a massive police operation is currently underway in the area and we are calling on the public to entrust us with information. People must come forward with information that can help us apprehend these perpetrators, and we promise that any information provided to us will be treated with a high degree of confidentiality.
