Sharia Court Rejects Kano TikToker
A sharia court in the Filin Hockey district of the Kano metropolis has ordered the pre-trial detention of a TikTok skit maker, Murja Kunya, in a correctional center.
The sketchmaker was arraigned on Thursday on charges bordering on defamation, vulgarity, public nuisance and violation of public order.
The defamation charge was added to the counts after a complaint filed by two other TikTokers, namely Aisha Najamu and Idris Maiwushirya, who accused Murja of defaming their character, according to Daily mail.
After all the charges were read to the accused by the prosecutor, Lamido Sorondinki, she pleaded not guilty.
After that, Murja’s lawyer Yasir Musa applied for her bail but was opposed by the prosecutor.
The judge, Abdullahi Halliru, ordered the defendant to be remanded in custody and then adjourned the case to February 16 to rule on the bail application.
Murja was recently arrested by the police in Kano on the orders of a sharia court.
