Pump guns found in the home of the Ogboni leader in Lagos
The Lagos State Police Command said on Thursday it sought the leader of a fraternal Ogboni institution, Tajudeen Bakare, for threatening public peace and possessing weapons in the Surulere area of the state.
State Police public relations officer SP Benjamin Hundeyin said in a statement on Twitter that while acting on useful intelligence, police officers stormed Bakare’s residence.
He explained that Bakare narrowly escaped during the sting operation.
Hundeyin said: “Following the emergence of a video earlier this week showing a man wielding a pump gun threatening public peace, the CSP Yinka Egbeyemi-led Rapid Response Squad, working on actionable intelligence, carried out a sting operation in the man’s home in the Surulere area of the state.
“Three pump shotguns, a Beretta pistol magazine, one spent 9mm ammunition, one blank and three live cartridges, and a picture frame belonging to the suspect were found in the suspect’s home.
“The suspect, Tajudeen Bakare, narrowly escaped arrest and is hereby declared wanted. Any useful information leading to his arrest would be greatly appreciated and treated with the utmost confidentiality.
According to the message on the photo frame taken from Bakare’s residence, he was described as a monarch of the Ogboni brotherhood.
Recall that Bakare was one of 49 suspects arrested at the Yoruba Nation rally in the state sometime in 2021.
He was paraded with other suspects at the police headquarters in Ikeja.
During the parade, Bakare said he was on his way to a destination in the state when police stopped him, adding that he was not among the protesters.
