The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (ret.), has expressed his delight at the unveiling of Elon Musk-owned Starlink, SpaceX’s Starlink broadband service in Nigeria.

Buhari noted that with the start of Starlink operations in the country, Nigeria now has 100 percent broadband penetration, adding that Nigeria is so far the first and only African country to enjoy the Starlink rollout.

The president said this in a message tweeted Thursday night on his verified Twitter page.

He wrote: “We are delighted that Starlink services have been deployed in Nigeria, making us the first African country – and the only one to date – to benefit from this rollout. With this deployment of Starlink, we now have 100 percent broadband penetration in Nigeria.”

The PUNCH reported that the company, owned by Elon Musk, SpaceX confirmed Starlink’s deployment in Nigeria in a tweet on Monday, stating that Nigeria had become the first African country to benefit from its services.

It tweeted: “Starlink is now available in Nigeria – the first African country to receive service.”

The PUNCH reports that Starlink is aiming for a global broadband network, leveraging a constellation of Low Earth Orbit to provide high-speed internet coverage with the capacity to penetrate rural and geographically isolated areas.
