Troops rescue 30 kidnapped travelers in Kaduna

Troops from the Nigerian army’s one division, Kaduna, rescued 30 abducted victims along the dreaded Kaduna-Birnin-Gwari road in Kaduna state on Thursday.

The division’s acting public relations Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya, who revealed this in a statement, said the troops met the bandits while escorting Chief of Defense Training and Operations, Major General SE Udonwa, who was on operational visits to ‘Operation Whirl Punch’ headquarters in Birnin Gwari.

According to Yahaya, the troops attacked and overpowered the bandits, forcing the criminal elements to retreat in disarray.

He said the hard-fighting troops recovered two of the crooks’ motorcycles and immediately cleared the route for a free flow of vehicle traffic.

The army spokesman said: “A combat patrol from 1 Div today, Thursday 2 February 2023, encountered armed bandits kidnapping commuters in Manini village along the Kaduna – Birnin Gwari road.

“The troops accompanying the Chief of Defense Training and Operations Maj Gen SE Udonwa, who was on operational visits to the Operation Whirl Punch headquarters in Birnin Gwari, attacked and overpowered the bandits, forcing the criminal element to throw itself into disarray to retreat.

“The brave troops rescued 30 abducted victims, recovered 2 motorcycles and immediately cleared the highway for a free flow of car traffic. The rescued victims were escorted to Udawa and Birnin Gwari to continue their journey.

“The Chief of Defense Training and Operations, Major General SE Udonwa, has praised the troops for their professionalism and resilience.”
