State Commissioner for Education in Niger pledges commitment to quality education
Niger State Commissioner for Education, Hajiya Hannatu Jubril Salihu, has reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to providing quality and comprehensive education to the citizens of the state.
She said this in a statement commemorating this year’s International Day of Education in the state.
Salihu announced that the state government had prioritized providing quality education and encouraging education for girls and children for gender equality and breaking the cycle of poverty to increase enrollment in public schools.
She said the effort was to give out-of-school children a chance to get a formal education and become self-reliant.
She added that the State of Niger had been consistent in implementing the Universal Basic Education (UBE) program aimed at achieving unimpeded universal access, participation and completion of basic education for all school-aged and adolescent boys and girls.
The United Nations General Assembly had declared each January 24 International Day of Education and the theme for this year’s celebration was ‘Invest in People, Prioritize Education’.
She said this year’s celebration was centered around the call to “maintain strong political mobilization around education and set the course for turning commitments and global initiatives into action.”
She used the medium to call on education enthusiasts for their support in promoting the use of the ‘Nigeria Learning Passport’ and other innovative approaches that the ministry will be rolling out to ensure that every child in the state of Niger has access to basic and quality education regardless of location, gender and family background.
