There was a traffic jam along the busy Asaba/Onitsha highway on Wednesday as angry youths, rights activists and motorists in Asaba protested against high fuel prices and banks’ hoarding of new naira notes.
Armed with placards, the demonstrators drummed for a better Nigeria and called on the authorities to intervene by lowering the cost of living for the country’s citizens.
The protesters led by a candidate for the House of Representatives in the upcoming elections from Ethiopia, Comrade Ukuanovwe, Odimbu, demanded sanctions against bank managers in the state for hoarding the new naira notes.
They called on President Muhammadu Buhari and Delta State Governor Senator Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa to persuade the fuel vendors and gas station operators to lower the cost of fuel per liter.
The demonstrators vowed to continue the protest until the two issues are addressed.
