CNC, NUT and other stakeholders are holding a school crime management workshop

On Wednesday, the Corps of Nigerian Commissionaires, CNC, the Crime Prevention Units of Nigeria’s Oyo Region and other stakeholders held a workshop on high school crime management in Oyo State.

Held at the premises of IMG Basic School, Eleta, Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, the event was well attended by security agencies, the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, Oyo State Chapter, representative of the Oyo State Ministry or education, parents and community leaders gathered to discuss crime management in schools.

At the event, Oyo State Commander, Corp of Nigerian Commissionaire, CNC, Dr. Orebiyi Adewole, explained that the event was organized to reach out to people to understand the implications of criminal activity in schools.

He said CNC moved after investigating crime, the sources of crime and the age of those involved in criminal activity in schools.

In addition, the force felt they should get together with other stakeholders on what to do to find solutions to high school violence.

Adewole complained that poor parenting, community indiscipline, and youth exposure to hard drugs are responsible for crimes among high school students.

While also complaining that problems in schools such as overcrowding, lack of discipline among teachers, mode of admission of students to public schools and political influence over school management also contribute to criminal activity among high school students.

He said in an effort to achieve success in stamping out crime in the school. The CNC is seeking the support of the Parent Teachers Association, PTA and other well-meaning Nigerians to help intervene in the school security fund to protect schools from violence.

Raji Oladimeji, who also spoke to the President of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, Oyo State Branch, stated that in order to reduce violence, schools have been advised to sensitize their students and engage them in additional curriculum activities so as not to make them inactive .

He also deplored the use of charms on teachers by some high school students and added that the sale of hard drugs in our area should be condemned.

Oladimeji advised parents to divinely train their children to stop crimes in schools.

Representing Oyo Commissioner for Education, Rahman AbdulRaheem, Local Inspector of Education, Ibadan South East, Ms Abosede Adeyemo urges parents to work with schools and safety agencies to curb indiscipline in schools.

While also seeking the support of community leaders in fighting crimes inside and outside school buildings.

Adeyemo noted that parents should support education by raising money for schools.
