Tinubu did not attack Buhari – APC PCC

The All Progressives Congress Campaign Council on Wednesday kicked a section of the media’s report accusing Bola Tinubu, the APC’s presidential standard-bearer, of making fun of the presidency at the APC meeting in Cross River State.

A statement from the PCC Director of Media and Publicity, Bayo Onanuga, on Wednesday afternoon revealed that at no time did their director slander the character of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), at the venue.

Onanuga stated that Tinubu addressed the huge crowd of party supporters and people of Cross Rivers State at UJ Esuene Stadium to not vote for the People’s Democratic Party and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, because of their litany of failures while in power for 16 years. .

While defending his director, the PCC media director noted that the former governor’s reference to exchange rate was in no way an attack on the Muhammadu Buhari-led regime, but an attempt to capture how the PDP’s economic mismanagement caused the currency crisis in the country. since 2015.

The statement read in part: “We feel it is important to correct the misrepresentation of the statement made by our candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, at the campaign rally in Calabar yesterday by some of the media, particularly ThisDay Newspaper and its broadcasting arm, Arise News .

“Anyone who has followed the whole sequence and context of what Asiwaju said at the meeting in Calabar knows that he aimed his missiles at the PDP and Atiku. Let’s not forget that the PDP left the forex reserve at $28 billion in May 2015 when Buhari took over, despite unprecedented crude oil revenues.

“Even with the massive oil theft and the low price of crude oil, until recently President Buhari had built up the reserve to about $38 billion. The PDP met the exchange rate of N85 to one US dollar in 1999 and left it at N230 in 2015.

“The vain attempt to misrepresent Asiwaju Tinubu by the mischievous PDP media did not detract from its central message. Our candidate explicitly said that the people should not follow the PDP and Atiku because they don’t know the way.

“Asiwaju Tinubu cannot have meant that President Buhari does not know the way, as he has celebrated the achievements of the Buhari administration countless times. Tinubu had also said on campaign forums that he would build on the results in his February 25 election.

“It is just illogical that the same Asiwaju would attack the Buhari government because they don’t know the way. In contrast, Asiwaju Tinubu has consistently said throughout this campaign so far that the PDP and all opposition parties together do not know the road to prosperity for Nigeria. He also said the competing candidates do not have the track record he built as governor of Lagos.

“As a front runner in the race, he has pledged to implement his robust action plan that will bring socio-economic prosperity to our country. We are unaware of the antics of ThisDay and Arise News to deliberately misrepresent our candidate and highlight anything they believe will paint Asiwaju Tinubu in a bad light since the start of this election circle.

“We want to state categorically that all opposition machinations to drive a wedge between President Muhammadu Buhari and Asiwaju Tinubu will fail. The APC, its leadership and President Buhari strongly support our presidential candidate.

“All the sponsored innuendo, fabricated and imaginary discord in APC that the failed PDP and their media bodies hope to cash in to win the upcoming election will explode in their faces.”
