Ganduje mourns the passing of ex-BUK VC
Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje on Wednesday expressed compassion for the families of the late Professor Ibrahim Umar, former Vice-Chancellor, Bayero University, Kano and prayed for Allah’s forgiveness and rest for his soul.
The death of the famed physics professor, said the governor, “was a great loss not just for the state of Kano, but for the country and entire academic communities around the world. We have truly lost a rare gem.
“On behalf of the state government and the good people of Kano State, I extend my sincerest condolences to his immediate families, friends and the Bayero University Kano community.
‘Professor I. Umar was one of the best academics we’ve ever had in the country. An accomplished scholar of great substance whose academic leadership has produced many scholars and administrators,” he said.
In a statement to the press, the governor’s chief press secretary, Abba Anwar, said that soon after he gave condolences to his family, Bayero University’s Kano Community, Governor Ganduje also sent his condolences to the International Atomic Energy Agency, where the deceased was president of the agency board from 2000-2001; Energy Commission of Nigeria, where he was Director General in 1989, and the entire academic community inside and outside the country.
“May Almighty Allah forgive all his shortcomings and richly reward his good deeds with Jannatul Fiddaus. May Allah see through his families,” he prayed.
He urged his families to always see wisdom in following his footsteps of righteousness, humility, discipline and love for his people, hard work and devoted devotion to duty.
