One killed in Bauchi, Rivers campaign clashes
The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed that one person was killed and another injured in Akuyam, Misau Local Government Area, as the state’s All Progressives Congress candidate for governor, Sadique Abubakar, and his team entered the area. visited to campaign.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, the command’s public relations officer, SP Ahmed Wakil, said the deceased died Tuesday morning at the Federal Medical Center, Azare, in the state’s Katagum local government area, while the other victim was still being treated. in the hospital where they were both rushed.
He said, “Yesterday at 8:30 PM, APC gubernatorial candidate Air Marshal Abubakar Sadique was on his way from Dambam Local Government Area to Akuyam for a campaign. On reaching the city of Akuyam, his retinue was attacked.
“As a result, his handlers opened fire and two persons, namely Saleh Garba, 35 years old, and Yakubu Yunusa, 20 years old, were shot throughout Akuyam Village and evacuated to Federal Medical Center, Azare for treatment.
“Today (Tuesday) we received confirmation that one of them had died during treatment.”
The spokesperson added that Police Commissioner CP Aminu Alhassan had led a discreet investigation into the incident.
Salisu Barau, the media aide to the gubernatorial candidate, responded, blaming the opposition for the attack.
He said about 15 to 20 cars were destroyed in the collision.

In Rivers State, the campaign train of APC gubernatorial candidate Tonye Cole was attacked Tuesday in Opobo, Opobo/Nkoro LGA town, kidnapping and later releasing a member of the party.

Meanwhile, the state police order said it had launched an investigation into the assault on Social Democratic Party gubernatorial candidate Magnus Abe on Monday.
Command spokeswoman SP Grace Iringe-Koko described the incident in a statement as an attack prior to the rally.
