A social group in Ondo State, Elites Banter Club, presented and handed over a bus refurbished by the club to the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS), Ondo State Command on Tuesday.

While handing over the refurbished vehicle to the correctional center officials, the club’s president, engineer Kolapo Talabi, said the club took responsibility to repair the vehicle left behind by the accident.

Talabi, who was represented by the club’s vice president Oluwaseun Adeboyejo, said the bus was involved in an accident and then abandoned as the correctional center believed it was beyond repair.

He said the repair of the bus was in fulfillment of the club’s goal of contributing to the social and community development of the immediate area.

He noted that the move will go a long way toward easing the burden on the correctional service and complementing the government’s efforts.

He said it was intended to complement the government’s efforts to ensure the adequate welfare of the detainees.

He said: “The new vehicles will be used to transport inmates from one correctional center to another, to the courthouse and to the hospital if they are sick.

“It would alleviate the logistical challenges faced by the management of the home and also boost inmate morale”

While appreciating the club, Mr. Ope Fatinikun, the Comptroller of the Nigeria Correctional Service Ondo State Command expressed his joy and gratitude to the club for the gesture and support

He revealed that the social club has met the immediate need of the center saying that the vehicle is an essential need of the service in the state.

He called and pleaded for more support, especially on the welfare of the prisoners, saying there were still areas that needed attention.

He said that the current administration in prisons is doing so much to give the equipment a facelift in terms of infrastructure and said there were so many challenges but the government could not do it alone.

However, he delivered a letter of thanks from the Comptroller General of Non-Commissioned Officers, Mr. Aliu Nababa, to the Klub, urging other spirited individuals and organizations to emulate the club.
