Ahead of the upcoming 2023 general election, Commodore Omatseye Nesiama (retd) says he will pursue a genuine constitutional role for traditional rulers if he takes power.

He said he will ensure that traditional rulers under his watch are well positioned by working towards their recognition.

Commodore Nesiama made the pledge Tuesday at the palace of Owhelogbo Kingdom’s Odiologbo, HRM Romanus Ejirememe Inana, when he visited Isoko’s traditional rulers and members of the “Obidient Group” in Isoko.

Commodore Nesiama, who sought the blessings of Isoko’s traditional rulers for his senatorial ambition, vowed to provide paid employment and empowerment to the teeming youth if he becomes the next senator.

Commodore Nesiama explained that if the traditional rulers were well positioned, most of the problems in society, especially insecurity, would be solved.

“I’m not saying this because I’m here, but when I get there I’ll make sure the royal fathers are well positioned.

“If there is a problem, politicians, political leaders run to our royal fathers. After the problem is solved, you (politicians, political leaders) run from them.

“I retired once. I’m not tired of retirement. As soon as I get someone to take over for me, I’ll retire. I’m not going to be Methuselah in Senate/Politics.

“Being accountable is being able to indicate what you want to do for the people. But most of our politicians don’t because they know they will be called upon if they don’t do what they promised,” he noted.

The Odiologbo of the Owhelogbo Kingdom, HRM Romanus Ejirememe Inana, speaking on behalf of the traditional Isoko rulers who numbered 16, promised to draft and circulate the Omatseye Nesiama Manifesto before him, saying that this was their only way was where they could help him.

“We pray that God will continue to protect us. When you present to us what you have to offer, we believe it is possible. We used to think that there are or are only two parties.

“But now someone like you has come. What the traditional rulers across the country are asking for is constitutional recognition.

“Before the colonial masters, traditional institutions prevailed. But since the arrival of the colonial masters, they have abolished the traditional institutions.

“We promise you that you will make more copies of the Omatseye Manifesto and distribute it everywhere. That is the only help we can give you for now. As traditional rulers, we are not allowed to say anything, but we will pray for you and bless you,” the monarch said enthusiastically.

Meanwhile, supporters of the Labor Party (LP) presidential candidate Mr. Peter Obi under the auspices of the “Obidient Group” said the NNPP’s Delta South Senatorial Candidate, Commodore Nesiama (retd) is their Senatorial Candidate in Delta South Senate District .

LP Ward Chairman in Iyede Ward II, Mr. Akpos Okere, made the statement on behalf of the group, saying, “We are a labor party and we have agreed to work for you as a Senator from Delta South. We don’t have a Senate candidate. It is now a coalition.”
