AfDB plans $1.5 billion food facility for Nigeria, others
The African Development Bank has said it has set up a $1.5 billion emergency food production facility to support Africa’s food supply.
The President, AfDB, Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina, who stated this in an interview at the office of the Governor, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, when he visited Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun on Monday, noted that the facility became necessary as a result of the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia, which had increased prices of wheat and corn.
Adesina added that the food production emergency would support 34 countries, with 20 million farmers producing about 38 million tons of food worth $12 billion.
He expressed his confidence that Africa would not have a food crisis as a result of the war in Ukraine.
He revealed that a Feed Africa Summit in Dakar, Senegal, attended by about 34 heads of state, including President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (rted.) of Nigeria, was able to mobilize $30 billion to support the country’s food and agriculture supply pact. countries in Africa.
