A truck fell on a commercial bus in Ojuelegba, towards Fadeyi, Lagos state, on Sunday, claiming eight lives.

Lagos State Traffic Management Authority officials attempted to rescue the victims.

Efforts were made to rescue the victims, the agency said.

“A truck with a container fell on a bus at Ojuelegba, towards Fadeyi. Rescue and evacuation work is currently underway,” said the agency’s permanent secretary, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, in a statement.

“Recovery of the fallen container is still ongoing, although it has risen on top of the minibus but has not been completely removed from the site, traffic is still stalled and we currently have a traffic jam in Alaka.

“Please exercise patience or find an alternative if you are not stuck in traffic,” he added.

An eyewitness said the truck driver wanted to stop the bus to overtake it.

It was believed that only one of the nine passengers involved was rescued alive.
