Sagamu: Morgue Attendants On The Run From Missing Corpse In OOUTH
OGUN:”There were some reports that a female corpse was said to be missing from the OOUTH mortuary when the family came to collect it for burial”
Two mortuary workers were reportedly on the run for allegedly missing a female corpse deposited in the mortuary of Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu.
A Facebook user had posted the development on his wall that relatives of the deceased had gone to the hospital to collect the corpse for burial and the corpse could not be found.
The body was said to have been deposited in the hospital morgue more than four months ago
It was believed that the hospital’s development management team had yet to reach an agreement on the missing corpse.
Tribune Online learned that security officers were at the hospital investigating the case.
The Facebook user had said that relatives of the deceased had come from Ijebu-Ode with an ambulance and shroud bearers to collect the body for burial while checks were carried out on 69 corpses deposited in the morgue.
It was learned that two hospital mortuary workers had fled while their mobile lines were down.
Meanwhile, the hospital’s management had promised to unravel the “confusion” surrounding the incident.

The hospital’s Chief Medical Director, Dr (Ms) Oluwabunmi Fatungase, said in a statement that management expressed deep concern over the incident.

The statement read: “The management of Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu has expressed deep concern about the occurrence of a dead body mix-up at the hospital, and assured that it is working to unravel the situation.
“There were some reports that a female corpse was reported missing from the OOUTH mortuary when the family came to collect it for burial.
“In a statement signed by the hospital’s Chief Medical Director, Dr. Oluwabunmi Fatungase, the issue of missing corpses is unprecedented in the hospital morgue.
Fatungase said hospital management is working with appropriate agents and individuals to unravel the circumstances behind the mix-up, noting that closed-circuit camera (CCTV) footage is being evaluated.
“She said the case is being investigated at a high level and is calling for the continued cooperation of the affected family.
The CMD pointed out that the hospital will go as far as conducting a DNA test to identify the corpse, adding that any circumvention of the hospital’s quality assurance will not be taken lightly and appropriate consequences will be applied in accordance with public service rules. on the one found guilty.”
Fatungase said the current government in Ogun has upgraded the morgue with modern freezers and scaled up facilities, noting that the hospital’s mortuary services have been a favorite place for many people to keep their loved one’s remains intact until they are ready for funeral.
The CMD apologized to the bereaved family for the embarrassing situation and said their cooperation with the ongoing investigation is greatly appreciated, assuring that the body would soon be identified and released to them for proper burial.
