2023: Group wants Akeredolu to head Tinubu’s South-West campaign
A group has called on the leadership of the All Progressives Congress to appoint the Ondo State Governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, as the head of the Ahmed Tinubu/ Kashim Shetima Presidential Campaign Committee in the South-West.
The group under the auspices of the Ondo State Network for Tinubu, said Akeredolu was the most qualified person for the job in the region and would assist the party to victory in the forthcoming presidential election.
The coordinator of the group, Femi Adekambi, who spoke with journalists, on Friday in Akure, the state capital, said if Akeredolu was chosen to head the presidential campaign in the zone, there would be proper organisation of the campaign activities which would lead the party to victory in the South-West.
According to him, Governor Akeredolu, being the Chairman of APC South West Governors’ Forum, has the capacity to lead the campaign of the APC presidential candidate, describing him the as a resourceful, ingenious and practical political leader with the knack for getting results where others cannot succeed.
Adekambi said, “I can tell you that Akeredolu is the most qualified, apart from the fact that he is the Chairman of APC Governors’ Forum, don’t forget the fact that he has been performing excellently well in that aspect, he championed the call for Southern presidency.
“Majority of us in the Yoruba land believe that he is in the best position to lead the race, to champion the course.”
Speaking on the need for various Tinubu support groups to come together as one team , Adekanbi explained that the merger will boost the campaign efforts of the presidential candidate and his running mate.
“There is a Yoruba proverb that says when something is good, you see many people eyeing it. We welcome all the support groups, we are happy to have a lot of support groups, most especially, in Ondo State, we noticed that in Ondo State that there was a collapse of about 40 support groups and they came up with the name, Ondo State Coalition for Tinubu,” he stated.
The APC chieftain bragged that the chances of the APC presidential candidate winning the 2023 presidential election were very high, stressing that the party was already in charge of 22 states of the federation and has the majority in the National and State Houses of Assembly.
