9,710 PVCs are yet to be collected in Nasarawa – REC
the figure is part of a total of 122,697 PVCs intended for distribution to eligible voters in the state for the 2023 general election.
Dr. Uthman Ajidagba, resident electoral commissioner of Nasarawa state, has announced that 9,710 permanent voter cards remain to be collected in the state a few weeks before the election.
He said the figure is part of a total of 122,697 PVCs intended for distribution to eligible voters in the state for the 2023 general election.
He made the revelation while inspecting the vehicles hired to transport the materials from the state headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to state local government offices in Lafia.
He said that the owners of the PVCs have yet to come forward to choose them, despite the massive awareness raising by the commission about the development.
He called on registered voters who have not collected their PVCs to do so ahead of elections scheduled for February and March 2023.
Dr. Ajidagba also revealed that the commission has begun distributing non-sensitive material to all 13 local government areas in the state.
According to him, the items were expected to arrive at the commission’s local government offices early enough before the election to reduce the commission’s pre-election workload.
He explained that the deployment of the non-sensitive material, which is the second tier, was to enable timely distribution to the registration centers and electoral departments across the state.
He noted that INEC had intensified preparations for the elections to ensure that all polling stations moved smoothly.
“The INEC material ready for distribution includes mats, ballot boxes, voter booths and election bags. We are conducting the early distribution to reduce the commission’s workload in the state,” he explained.
